The project is called Concert Hall in Boca del Río by Rojkind Architects. The concept of the concert hall is a community space or a cultural space that everyone enter. The main material that is used is concrete and it is present in both exterior and interior of the concert hall. One of the reasons this material is used is because this building is located near the river in Boca del Rio, Mexico. Because of the material’s stability and solidity, it will withstand anything if something were to happen to the site. Another reason is the freedom to create any shape or form. By choosing concrete, the designer move away with the traditional shape of a concert hall and come out with a better and more unique form. The final reason why concrete is chosen is because it can make the main concert hall soundproof, so other spaces in the building will not be affected if there’s a concert happening there. The exterior of the building looks monumental and very untouchable but the texture on the concrete surface creates a sense of closeness and comfort to the building. For this building, the concrete on the wall mostly has wood texture to humanize the solid and industrialized character of the concrete. Concrete also has solid and close character, it can create a more intimate space between people within the space and they will feel enclosed in the room they are in.
